Assessment of state of marine environment and coastal areas of the Caspian to become regular

The Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan at a plenary session ratified the Protocol on protection of the Caspian Sea from pollution from land sources and as a result of activities carried out on land to the Framework Convention for Protection of Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea, Kazpravda.kz correspondent reports.

As noted in the conclusion, the Protocol on protection of the Caspian Sea from pollution from land-based sources and as a result of activities carried out on land to the Framework Convention for Protection of Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea was signed on December 12, 2012 in Moscow.

The purpose of the Protocol is to prevent, reduce, control and eliminate as much as possible pollution of the Caspian Sea from land-based sources and as a result of activities carried out on land.

“In this regard, the protocol provides for the adoption of regional and national programs or action plans based on measures to control pollution sources, regular assessment of the state of the marine environment and coastal areas of the Caspian Sea, assessment of the sea pollution level along its coastline, creation and maintenance of a database of physical , biological and chemical characteristics of the marine environment and coastal areas, on the amount of pollutants entering the sea,” the conclusion to the document says.
