Convicted in the United States student from Kazakhstan Dias Kadyrbaev cannot be extradited, the RK Foreign Ministry’s speaker Altai Abibullayev said on the sidelines of the plenary session in Majilis, Kazpravda.kz reports.
June 2, the US court sentenced Kadyrbaev to 6 years in prison on charges of obstructing investigation into the terrorist attack on the Boston Marathon.
He has already served 26 months of the jail sentence out of 72 . Thus, 2 years will be subtracted from imprisonment. Also, on the American law, for good behavior, the prison term may be reduced annually by 15%, he added.
Abibullayev also stressed that Majilis had ratified the treaty on legal assistance between Kazakhstan and the United States, which, however, does not provide for the transfer of convicted persons to their home country.
Transfer of sentenced citizens of Kazakhstan takes the signing of relevant agreement between Kazakhstan and the United States or Kazakhstan's accession to the Pan-American Convention on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons. The Attorney General's Office is working at it, Abibullayev said.
