The students needed medical help because of the shock from the incident and carbon monoxide poisoning, Kazpravda.kz correspondent reports.
The fire broke out at school No. 1 - on the last, third floor, in the book depository office, when lessons were going on in neighboring classes.
According to the Department of Emergency Situations, the fire was reported at 11:06 am: furniture and books on an area of 15 square meters caught fire in the book depository.
Prior to the arrival of the fire department, 479 people were evacuated, including 414 children.
The fire was extinguished at 11:41. 35 employees of the fire service and 9 units of equipment, as well as 4 specialists and an ambulance of the disaster medicine center worked on the spot.
From the scene, five girls aged 14-15 were taken to the hospital. Two, after examination and first aid, were handed over to their parents, but three others were hospitalized in the somatic department of the children's regional hospital. Doctors assessed their condition at admission as moderate due to carbon monoxide intoxication.
It should be noted that this school recently completed a large-scale reconstruction of the building under the Zamanaui Mektep program, for which almost 640 million tenge was allocated. Repair of the power supply system was also included in the scope of work. At the same time, the object was commissioned after the due date - the children returned to the school only in November 2021.
