At an extraordinary session of the regional maslikhat, a new administrative-territorial division of the East Kazakhstan region was discussed, Kazpravda.kz reports citing Noks.kz.
According to the new division, the East Kazakhstan region will be defined within the boundaries of a territory with a total area of 97.8 thousand square kilometers and will include the city limits of Ust-Kamenogorsk and Ridder, as well as Glubokovsky, Zaisansky, Katon-Karagaysky, Kurchumsky, Samara, Tarbagataisky, Ulansky, Shemonaikhinsky districts and the Altai district. Ust-Kamenogorsk will remain the administrative center of the region.
The Abay region with the center in Semey will be located on the territory of 185.5 thousand square kilometers and will include the city limits of Semey and Kurchatov, as well as Abay, Ayagoz, Aksuat, Beskaragai, Borodulikha, Zharma, Kokpekty, Urdzhar districts.
