The Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerbol Karashukeev told at a government meeting when the issue of providing the domestic market with domestically produced products will be resolved, Kazpravda.kz correspondent reports.
Yerbol Karashukeev noted that by the end of 2021, the domestic market supply for 29 main types of foodstuffs, including 19 types of socially significant ones, due to domestic production is 80% or more. Of these, the domestic market is 100% provided with 11 commodity items. We are talking about such goods as bread, pasta, milk, potatoes, cucumbers, rice, lamb, chicken eggs, wheat flour, buckwheat, salt.
For another 12 commodity items, the provision is 80%. Among them are tomatoes, carrots, cabbage, onions, peppers, table beets, beef, horse meat, pork, dairy products, butter, sunflower oil.
“The exception is such goods as apples (73.7%), poultry meat (65.4%), sausages (56.4%), cheeses and cottage cheese (56%), sugar (42.6%). According to these groups of goods, the amount of imports is $700 million,” said the head of the Ministry of Agriculture.
Full import substitution for poultry meat is planned by 2025, due to the construction and modernization of 23 poultry farms with a total production capacity of 223.1 thousand tons per year.
Also, by the end of 2025, it is planned to implement 20 investment projects for milk processing, including 5 large enterprises for the production of cheese and cottage cheese with a total capacity of 161.2 thousand tons of milk processing.
“The share of apple imports in 2021 amounted to 99.4 thousand tons, with our own harvest of 262.8 thousand tons. Full import substitution is planned by 2025 due to the laying of 22 orchards on an area of 8.2 thousand hectares. The share of imports of sausages in 2021 amounted to 47 thousand tons, with own production of 60.7 thousand tons. By the end of 2025, it is planned to implement 24 investment projects for meat processing, including the launch of four large enterprises for the production of sausages with a total production capacity of 87.4 thousand tons,” Karashukeev said.
According to him, the following systemic measures will be taken as part of import substitution measures:
- financing of projects in the amount of 23.6 billion tenge;
- construction of infrastructure;
- subsidizing investments in the amount of 6 billion tenge;
- strengthening product quality control.
