Social networks will not be blocked in Kazakhstan

The Majilis at the plenary session agreed with the amendments made by the Senate to the draft amendments on the protection of the rights of the child, education, information and informatization with its own changes and additions. Thus, in case of posting prohibited information, the work of the Internet resource will not be suspended. Thus, the law is considered adopted by the Parliament and sent for signature to the Head of State, Kazpravda.kz correspondent reports.

As Senate Speaker Maulen Ashimbaev noted earlier, taking into account the received appeals, the deputies proposed to revise several provisions of the bill.

Thus, the powers that allowed the authorized body to restrict access to or suspend the operation of Internet resources, social networks and instant messengers were excluded.

"The emphasis is on the removal, in cooperation with representatives of online platforms, of only information recognized by the expert group as cyberbullying exclusively in relation to a child. We believe that this procedure will allow us to find a reasonable balance between the need for a prompt response to the facts of cyberbullying against children and the society's need for information. In our opinion, this approach is in line with the concept of New Kazakhstan and the logic of the political reforms being carried out in the country," Maulen Ashimbaev said.
