Figure skater Mikhail Shaidorov won the first medal in the history of Kazakhstan at the World Junior Championships, Kazpravda.kz reports citing Vesti.kz.

The 18-year-old Kazakhstani took second place after a free program at competitions in Tallinn (Estonia). Before that, in the short program, he was only eighth.

Shaidorov scored a total of 234.31 points, losing only to the US representative Ilya Malinin - 276.11. The Japanese Tatsuya Tsuboi won bronze with 233.82 points.

Shaidorov, who performed to the song from the film "Once Upon a Time in America", commented on his result in the following way.

"We had a very difficult preparation for these competitions, as I had to skate in open sessions, but I was able to cope with it and I'm happy," said the skater.

We add that earlier the best results of Kazakhstan at the junior world championships were shown by Denis Ten and Elizabet Tursynbayeva. Both were in fourth place.
